One of the most empowering things I did for myself was to put a little distance between me and my mind, and me and my body.  Understanding that we aren’t our thoughts and we aren’t our feelings and we aren’t our body, is liberating.

One of the many benefits is having easier control of our emotions and being able to self-regulate our nervous system. And we don’t need to be neuroscientists or psychologists or great yogis to take care of ourselves in this way.  We just need to practice having that little distance and understand some basics.

Our body is a chemical factory. Because of what we think, our brain will produce certain chemicals.

For example, feeling lots of energy to do this, or this, and maybe this?…. “oh hello dopamine. You’re looking for a place to happen right now. A little achievement, anyone?”  ;)

Another common example, feeling anxious can be thought of as just a rise in cortisol. Here’s a short video of me in real-time last week, becoming aware of what was going on for me and because of that distance, being able to choose to lie down and breathe my way back into feeling resourceful.

And here’s a short video the day after, explaining my thinking and what went on.

Cheers to adding a little more empowerment on your Self-Love journey this month! 💕

in love and some laughter,

PS. If you’re wondering how to practice having that little distance, one way I did it was to meditate “I am not my body” on the inhale and “I am not my mind” on the exhale for 5 mins a day for 40 days.
